Helmsdale 2015

The east coast town of Helmsdale held their inaugural regatta on the last Saturday in June and it provided The Skiffties with our first opportunity to compete against fellow skiffing clubs. Eight teams were in attendance from Anstruther, Coigach, Burghead, Newburgh, Ullapool, Wick and ourselves joined the hosts for some really competitive racing.
In a quite spectacular start to our competitive racing history our Ladies over 40’s team not only won the first race of the day, they crushed the opposition finishing more than 20 lengths ahead of the second placed skiff!!!
The rest of the crews found it a little tougher but performed well and with a 5th placed finish in the last race of the day, the mixed decades, Avoch secured a fantastic 4th overall. Our mixed decades crew contained by far the youngest rower of the day, Erin Lambert, aged just 13!! A Superstar is born.
Well done to all our rowers and supporters who made the trip. I am sure everyone who made the effort would agree it was a fantastic start for the club and lets hope this is just the start of things to come.

Happy New Year

A very happy New Year to all the members of the Avoch Community Rowing Club and a big thank you to those that made our Hogmanay Bash such a success. The curries were terrific and the music great too so a BIG well done to everyone involved in making it happen.
The past year was amazing for our club with the our launch day in August being the highlight. I am quite sure that with the combined efforts of all the clubs members that 2015 will be even more memorable.

Chanonry Launch Day

Our near neighbours Chanonry Sailing Club held their official launch day on the 30th of November and The Skiffties where on hand to offer a hearty cheer as the ‘Chanonry Maid’ finally entered the Firth. After previous postponements due to poor weather she looked a picture as she slid in to the flat calm waters, flanked by ‘Zulu’ and ‘Esther’ from Ardersier. The sun shone brightly and those present where treated to a screening of the ‘Chanonry Maid’ build video in the sailing club clubhouse. Back on the water and mixed crews, including members from the Burghead and Colliston clubs, enjoyed the early afternoon conditions before ‘Zulu’ and our crack team of rowers headed back out in to the Firth and returned to home waters. Terrific weather, the company of good friends and a handsome new edition to the Moray Firth fleet. A good day all round.

Megan kindly took some nice photos of the day and they are on the website.
